wonderment and bobby pins

"just as art promises wonderment--an access to a realm beyond the everyday, through the experience of which we may understand the everyday better--a collection of things, even everyday things, promises wonderment, too, as these things become no longer everyday, having been enshrined by a collector." --Michael Kimmelman, The Accidental Masterpiece.

I love how artist Lisa Congdon is creating a collection of collections on her blog, A Collection A Day, 2010. The vintage hairpins was one of my favorites, because every girl knows just how valuable a bobby pin can be.

I like that bobby pins can always be used to pick locks in movies. Even if this isn't necessarily true in real life, it's always nice to know you have a movie option to fall back on if you get locked out.
